Getting to Olomouc

Olomouc is easily accessible by train from Prague (2-3 hours, trains run almost every hour) or from Vienna (3-4 hours, but not very frequently).

Arriving to Prague Airport – Václav Havel International Airport 

After the arrival, passengers can choose from several options for the orientation from the airport. There is no direct connection between the airport and Olomouc. We recommend using Airport Express, Public transport, or Taxi service to get to Prague´s main train station or Prague Florenc Coach Station, where passengers can board comfortable trains or coaches.

How to get from Prague Main Railway Station to Olomouc?

If you are interested in travelling by train from Prague´s main train station, we recommend searching your connection and booking the tickets at the website of České dráhy company or at the Integrated Transport System (IDOS.cz). Connections from Prague´s main train station (Praha hl. n.) to Olomouc´s main train station(Olomouc hl. n.) are usually provided without transfers.

How to get from Prague Florenc Coach Station to Olomouc?

If you are interested in travelling by coach from Prague Florenc Coach Station, we recommend booking your ticket with Flix Bus or Regiojet companies. Connections between Prague Florenc Coach Station and Olomouc are provided as direct as well as with transfers. You can also search your connections in the Integrated Transport System (IDOS.cz).

Arriving to Vienna Airport

After the departure, passengers can travel directly from Vienna International Airport (Flughafen Wien-Schwechat) by coach or train or from Vienna Central Station (Wien Hauptbahnhof) by train.

How to get from Vienna International Airport to Vienna Central Station? 

Regional buses

  • Vienna Airport Lines create a direct connection between Vienna International Airport and Vienna Central Station. All the connections are listed in a valid timetable
  • The travel from the airport (Flughafen Wien Bustermina) to the station (Wien Hbf Süd Am Hauptbahnhof) takes approximately 25 minutes.
  • You can buy your tickets at Vienna airport lines

ÖBB – Austrian Railways 

  • Passengers can also travel by trains that provide a comfortable link between the airport and the central station. It offers direct connections as well as connections with transfers.

How to get from Vienna International Airport to Olomouc by coach?

If you are interested in travelling by coach from Vienna International Airport to Olomouc, there are several companies for you to choose from. Connections are provided as direct as well as with transfers. We recommend using RegiojetFlixbus or Gepard Express. Gepard Express is not a direct connection to Olomouc. Passengers travelling by Gepard Express are asked to board a transfer by another company from Brno. You can also search your connections in the Integrated Transport System (IDOS.cz).

How to get from Vienna Central Station or Vienna International Airport to Olomouc by train?

If you are interested in travelling by train from Vienna Central Station or Vienna International Airport, we recommend searching for your connection and booking your tickets at the website of ÖBB Austrian Railways.

Transportation in Olomouc

Olomouc has quite a good transportation network. Trams and buses usually follow the schedules (displayed at the stops or available at Information Centre at the Railway Station). The basic fare is 18 CZK, (valid for 40 minutes on weekdays). Tickets are available at newsagents, news-stands and some shops, or in the slot machines at the bus/tram stops. You can buy a ticket from the driver on the bus or tram, but it will be more expensive (20 CZK). Or you can buy it by SMS to 90206 with ‚DPMO‘ typed in the message (20 CZK). After getting on the bus or tram you need to validate your ticket in a machine next to the door and you can change the tram or bus within the time limit.

Tickets

If you are interested in travelling by public transport in Olomouc, you have to buy a valid ticket. The ticket can be bought in several ways (see below). You can also buy a basic ticket (lasting up to 24 hours from validation) or a season ticket (lasting up to 12 months). Please be aware that basic tickets must be validated once inside the vehicle.

 * Tickets are valid for 40 minutes from the first validation from Monday to Friday and 60 minutes during the weekend.

Student fare can be drawn by pupils and students aged 18 to 26 years (till the day preceding their 26th birthday), who can validate themselves with International Student Identity Card (ISIC) or other student cards. There is an exception for students with a permanent job for whom the student fare can not be provided.

Ticket inspection

Daily inspections of trams and buses are randomized by inspectors. Be aware that they do not wear any uniform, often looking like regular passengers until the tram pulls away from the stop. They are obliged to prove their identity with a special ID. If you do not have a valid ticket, you will be fined 700 Kč if paid in cash on the spot or within 15 calendar days of the date following the issue of the penalty fare notice, or 1500 Kč later.

How to get from Olomouc Bus Station to Olomouc Main Railway?

Some of the coaches may stop at Olomouc Bus Station (Autobusové nádraží), which is approximately 1 kilometre (20 minutes walk) from Olomouc Main Railway. We recommend buying a ticket and travelling by tram or bus from “Aut. nádraží podchod“ to “Hlavní nádraží“ (Olomouc Main Railway).

You can find your connection in the Integrated Transport System. Select “Olomouc integrated transport system and type Aut. nádraží podchod in the ”From” field and Hlavní nádraží in the “To” field.

How to get to Envelopa area (Generál Svoboda Dormitory)

From the railway station, take tram no. 2 (direction Neředín), no. 3 (direction Trnkova), no. 4 (direction Nová ulice) and get off at the “Žižkovo náměstí” stop; no. 1 (direction Nová ulice), no. 5 (direction Trnkova), no. 7 (direction Neředín) and get off at the “Envelopa” stop. The dormitories are about a 5-10-minute walk along 17 Listopadu Street (a bit closer from the “Žižkovo náměstí” stop).
