Career Day

About the Career day

The career day is an indispensable part of the IP Programme and aims to bring EuCu students closer to what the life will be like post-Euroculture. Since having a sound notion of the profession is one of the preconditions to choose a good placement and later on job, the overall goal of this day’s programme is to familiarize students with a diversity of professions which Euroculture alumni may head for, and thus to help them overcome the gap between theory and practice, between classroom and work life. The interaction with other students within the consortium is furthermore essential in order to allow for streamlining interests, motivations and goals.
Our alumni, professionals in various fields will share with students their work experience:
What is the work in the specific field about and what employees are needed and welcome?
What competences and personal characteristics are required for the respective kind of job?
How to choose a suitable job for you?
How to use effectively the acquired theoretical knowledge?
How to make use of the international experience obtained during the Euroculture studies?
What you are never told in a classroom?
The Career day will consist of three parts:

10:30 – 12:30

Lecture on “Job market” vs. “Work market” by Gaudenz Assenza followed by a discussion in the morning.

14:00 – 15:30 & 16:00 – 17:00

Panel discussions with all the Euroculture alumni and moderators followed by a Q&A.

20:00

Informal get-together/networking with EuCu alumni in the evening.
The morning lecture introduces the idea of “Great Work Lives” – a life scenario, in which people feel that their work makes sense. Work gives each of us opportunities to develop as a person, to deepen human relationship and to serve organisations, society and the Earth. Keywords include personal growth, meaning, well-being, wisdom, healing and wholeness. Progress in these dimensions can make a difference for individuals, families, organisations, communities and societies. If we ask about meaningful work lives, it is useful to explore the concepts of the “job market” versus the “work market”. The “job market” is well-known. It has job ads and pink slips. It has employment and unemployment statistics. People worry if they will get good jobs and if they will keep them. At the same time, there is a second market we may call the “work market”. This market does not have job ads or any other aspects of the job market. The work market relates to the state of the world and the amount of problems there are to solve. People oriented towards the work market will never be unemployed. Everyone has in principle unlimited amount of work. The key question is how to earn a living while helping to serve the world.
